I heard Andre Louis talking to Eyes on Success about the program Ninjam. I like the concept, but I have a very important question. I don't have any fancy mixing technology, but I do have a real bass guitar and a real amp. Can I just play the bass in to the microphone? I'd assume that's an obvious answer, but since I can't find a manual, I'm going to ask to be sure.
I'm going to asume you're talking about an internal mic on your laptop, or something similar. I can catagorically say that it wouldn't work. You would get sound, but it would be awful, and most likely far too distorted for anyone to hear what you were playing in the first place. A good test for this would be to go on skype, and call the test call. Play some bass, and listen to what comes out. You could also do this on Team Talk. I hate to burst your bubble, but to get a decent sound like on Andre's recordings, you'll have to shell out a bit of cash and get to know your giere. For bass, you should only need a DI cable going into your machine, and then something like Guitar Rig to get yourself a sound. I might be missing a few things, as I'm not a propper techy myself. Hope this helps.
Well, my bubble wasn't burst. I was expecting an answer to that effect, but I'll give Skype call a check and see if I can't pull it off.
Guitar Rig is amazing however automated parameters such as amp parameters, may only be accessible in Sonar. Presets are accessible in Sonar, but I'm not sure that it's accessible in Standalone mode. I haven't used NinJam, but agree with DrummerD, I doubt it will work.
So how does the Guitar Pro work? I hook my bass to it and connect it to my PC? Or a mixer?
Guitar rig is a piece of software that runs on your PC. To plug your guitar intto your PC, you'll need a USB audio interface. There are many interfaces, but the most inexpensive one that has a bass input is the Roland Duocapture.
Note that Guitar rig works only in a daw like Sonar, though it may work in a free program called VST host.
How much is this application? I may give it a try.
There's a free version available from the Native Instruments website. You could also try Guitar Rig in Reaper, where it also is accessible in terms of presets, Reaper is 60 dollars, but has a trial version for free.
Hmm. What limitations does the free version give? I may go take a look.
